Matthew Booker on "Why Did Americans Stop Eating Locally in the Twentieth Century?"

Lunchtime Colloquium

10.07.2014 12:00  – 14:00

Location: Katholische Hochschulgemeinde (KHG), Leopoldstr. 11

Matthew Booker (North Carolina State University) will delve into the question of why Americans stopped eating locally in the twentieth century. He will discuss one important local food: oysters, the daily protein of the urban working poor. Why did they disappear so quickly and so thoroughly from the city? What does this case study suggest about Americans' relationship to nature?

The Lunchtime Colloquium is free and open to the public.

Snacks are served at 12:00; the lecture starts at 12:30.
